Summer Reading

Zan has been able to read for quite a while, but it is just recently that he has begun to think of himself as a reader.  Lately we've been "catching" him reading on his own during the day!  Two book series for young readers helped him take the plunge:  the "Stink" series by Megan McDonald and "Magic Treehouse" books by  Mary Pope Osborne.  "Magic Treehouse" books have been around for a long time,  but we just discovered the accompanying  research guides - perfect for boys like Zan who favor nonfiction!  Although Zoe was never a big "Magic Treehouse" fan, she did read all of Megan McDonald's "Judy Moody" books - now Zan is enjoying the adventures of Judy's brother, Stink.

Both series also have websites!

I'm glad Zan found a series he enjoys reading. Interestingly enough, we do a lot of RA with children and young adults at the library. I'll have to keep these two in mind :)

Carter loved the Magic Tree House stuff, too. I love the photo of Zan sneaking in a few pages! Carter has been known to curl up in the forward cabin and read for hours!
