We traveled to Philly over Labor Day Weekend to attend Thomas and Melissa's wedding, which was held at a fabulous Greek restaurant - Estia. It was a memorable celebration - beautiful ceremony, delicious food and lots of dancing! CONGRATULATIONS!
On Saturday we met up with Grandma and Carter to see the historic Philadelphia sites....Liberty Bell, Independence Hall etc, but first we took a walk down Smedley St., which is where my great grandparents (Nana and Dada) lived. Smedley St. is just a few blocks from the Academy of Music where my grandfather played violin with the Philadelphia Orchestra. I remember visiting them in their narrow house as a child, and Nana feeding the pigeons.

We took a tour of Independence Hall and learned the story of Caesar Rodney, signer of the Declaration of Independence, who is depicted on the Delaware state quarter. To break the deadlock vote on Independence, he rode eighty miles on horseback in a thunderstorm to Philadelphia on July 1st, arriving just in time to vote.

After a day of touring we headed to Reading Terminal for ice cream!
One of the things that impressed us the most about Philadelphia was the accommodations made in restaurants when we told our servers that Zan was not able to eat gluten. For example, our waitress at Tom and Melissa's wedding was absolutely amazing. She brought Zan plates of food that were not even on the wedding menu, specially made for him.
