Sometime during the middle of the winter we noticed a black cat that always seemed to be hanging around. After a while we started to suspect that it didn't have a home and was living under our porch. Against Mike's better judgement, the kids and I started feeding her. We fed her for months before she would come near us. At first we had to put the food out and go inside the house before she would even come out from under the porch. We would catch glimpses of her once in a while, but mainly she stayed away, darting under the porch for safety as soon as we walked outside or pulled into the driveway, but we fell in love with her through those little glimpses - that cute little white noise and beautiful green eyes. Gradually over time she became more accustomed to us, slinking out to her food bowl, grabbing a few nibbles and letting Zoe and Zan touch her fur, before dashing away. Then one day, it was as though someone flipped the switch went - suddenly she came out from under the porch and seemed to trust us completely.
We call her Thule because she used to spent so much time sitting on the Thule rack, which we store under the porch. It feels like she has adopted us and much as we have adopted her! She doesn't seem to leave our yard and actually seems to enjoy our company. Her temperament is very sweet - her visit to the vet for a check up and to get her shots was a breeze. The vet guessed that she is about three and a half years old and found a scar, indicating that she has already been spayed.
